Concord, 1949 Oil & Masking Tape on Canvas Barnett Newman
The semester winds to a close here at school, and everything is chaos. Grading, project pick-up, last minute students trying to cram it all in. In the midst of all that, I'm not the most articulate, so there won't be a very meaty blog post today. Last night, while I was running around doing errands, I asked myself what I really wanted my art to do. As I thought about that, something that I once came across that Barnett Newman said crossed my mind.
I hope that my painting has the impact of giving someone, as it did me, the feeling of his own totality, of his own separateness, of his own individuality.
I guess, in a nutshell, that's what I hope for my paintings too. More on that later.
