Sunday Inspiration: Museums

I love museums. I'm sure I've written about this before, but I really do love them. A lot. There is nothing that clears my mind and purifies my soul like a day spent slowly wandering through a museum. The substance created by so much documented human passion is palpable. Time spent staring into a painting; the feeling one gets from being in spaces so intentionally meant to be felt; the high ceilings (really, I love high ceilings) - it all culminates into an unparalleled feeling of purpose. Sunday Inspiration: Loving Good Into Existence

IBHS Drama Presents The Drowsy Chaperone It's remarkable to me that extraordinary things can become commonplace. We live in a world so full of amazing things, but because we get used to them, or maybe because we can't look at them too closely because our eyes might burn out, they start to look regular. What a shameful injustice that most of us aren't able to keep that in perspective. The idea that amazing and remarkable things happen all around us and we simply lose our ability to see it is uniquely troubling. I used to spend everyday of my career wrapped up in the wonder of creation. I was amazed that human creativity could happen. I was gobsmacked what kids could learn and how quickly they could learn it. I marveled at our ability to take nothing and turn it into something. It felt so special all the time. Then, one day, I wasn't. It became harder, and I got tired. Really tired. And then COVID came and education got even harder. The world has become, in a lot of ways,

I Will Love Them and Squeeze Them

It's funny to me how in a world that can feel so insurmountable stupid, human wisdom can be hiding in the most ordinary of places. The ideas and experience of the billions of people that have come before us is coded into our world. It's in everything that's ever been made. The world can feel like a lonely place, but how can it be, when we're surrounded by ideas and thoughts, almost like we're getting whispered to all the time. We just need to listen. An example - I'm listening to an audiobook while cooking dinner (I often listen to audiobooks while in the kitchen - Master level on Audible...NBD) and I'm listening the The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green. I've listened to it multiple times. I enjoy his voice, particularly in that format. But I'm listening, and it's a chapter that hadn't struck any particular chord on previous listens, but he's talking about the precipitation type "wintery mix" and he quotes e. e. cummings, say
